Had a good run, tomorrow I try again. Getting ready for Vegas I’m looking forward to the great task ahead of me. When I think of running 26 miles forget the .2, I shake my head and just have to say wow the things I have overcame in my training over the last three years, not just the running part that seems so small to all the other life stuff that has happened to me and my family. looking back I think as people have said that near death experences when people say that they have seen the light and all of their past family and friends are waiting there for them it seems kinda like the ending of the marathon of life, like a real marathon people are waiting ? The late nite ramblings of a real tired marathoner, until tomorrow.

Ran 8 miles, scary incounter with a coyote. I was running westbound on Telegraph Canyon Rd oppsite of traffic on the side walk 7.56 pace when I came across a drainage channel and tall brush, there it was 8-10′ away from me it, it seemed to be sizing me up as I was doing the same. We were so close to each other that all I could do is try to scare it off. Well I lifted my arm up as to throw my water bottle at it and I thought that would do the trick to scare it off, didn’t work it just stood there looking at me, I guess the thing that got my attention was it seemed to have no fear of me, holding it’s stance as what to do next. I started to walk away then started running again, dark and at my half way point I ran looking at every shadow differntly, when I felt I had left it behind I looked at my pace and I was doing 6:15 Mi, well I slowed down and made it home. A very wild and cool looking creature, I wish it well from the safety of home.

Ran 18 miles, wow it was hot and a late night the day before. All was worth it. I was running by the beach the whole training for this marathon and now running back on my old running road, Telegraph Canyon Rd in Chula Vista. It was very hot and I sweat so much that my red shirt looked like it was dusted it in white powder. A tough run in the heat is a real drainer of energey for me. This week I will try to get 16 miles in before Friday and then another 18 on Sunday, last week my back was hurting more than it ever has in my life but I think the pain is going away now
Running brings out thoughts locked deep inside me ( yes I’m impressed with myself, why lie) and I am thinking of starting a pod cast and sharing my thoughts with the world or the one person that comes across my pod cast by chance, well see.

First Marathon Vegas Dec 2005, Second Vegas Dec 2006, Third San Diego June 2007, Forth Vegas Dec 2007, Fifth San Diego June 2008 and now signed up for Vegas 2008.
Signed up for Las Vegas, booked My flight a few months ago but was waiting to see what Devine racing was doing and all seems good. I found out on their website the full marathon is being capped at 10,000 I was going to wait and sign up at the expo but didn’t want to chance it.
Can’t fly myself there just yet but soon I will be able to I’m 3/4 the way through flight school (what a blast!!!) I will not drive there anymore from Chula Vista, Ca. Last Dec on my way to the Marathon, I was doing a little over the speed limit in a place called Jean Nevada and a Nevada highway patrol wrote me a crazy double citation that costed me 600.00 So flying is a way to go fast and be safe and not worry about getting pulled over by that very nice man (just doing his job) All is well and life is good looking down the barrel of 26.2 will always pump My blood and put a smile on My face just thinking about it I can’t wait to be pushed to the limits of My body, Getting up at 3:00am on a Sunday, freezing, chafing, blistering and loving every second of this great life peak experience, See some of you there.
Ran a good pace run. I hurt My back sometime last weekend after I ran 18 miles I had to move back into my other house and I twisted something, I was not able to run the 16 miles this week only 4
Workout:
Ran 18 miles, it was a good 18, right knee started to hurt so I kept the run @ 18 was thinking of 20 but body is not ready for the extra 2 and I don’t think I will be able to do a 20 mile before Dec because knee is too sore, well next Sunday at least another 18 and try to squeeze in 2 8 mile runs this week.

My goals are: Keep active, Run a 16:00 5K, Finish a Sub 3:00:00 Marathon I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis in April of 2003, before then I was not very active and I didn’t like any sports that involved any type of Running like soccer or basketball. When I became ill I could not walk very well my knees were very swollen and everything hurt. I found myself using the handicap restrooms and never realized how important those hand rails are or even the height of the toilet seat, but without those modifications I would have had a more difficult time taking care of myself. Being unable to carry my four month old daughter up and down the stairs at our two story house was very hard to deal with and not being able to kick a ball to my six year old son at the park when he rolled the ball to me left a lasting impression in my heart that I will carry forever, at thirty four years old the rest of my life looked very challenging, but for some reason about five months later unknown to me or my doctor I went into full remission and luckily I had no permanent joint damage. When my health got better I decided to be a bit more active, at the time I was taking care of my kids as soon as I got off of work and my wife was working late so I needed some activity that was the most time effective for me and running just made sense. I started with a run around the block, and made I about fifty feet before I became winded and started walking, I walked around the block never running again. The next day I tried it again, this time I made it about seventy five feet and then walked again the rest of the way around the block, with that twenty five foot increase in one day it was enough motivation to keep trying until I ran around the whole block without stopping build and build and staying positive I kept running one block then two then three than four and kept looking back everyday on yesterdays accomplishments to go farther the next day, soon I was up to about 2.5 miles a day it was amazing what I accomplished in such a short time. I ran everyday for about sixty days and then one day on the internet I came across a marathon in Las Vegas on the famous strip, and the strip would be closed for the first time, running on the strip excited me, but I knew I was not even close to being able to run 26.2. I knew I needed great help in this endeavor and with that thought I went to the book store, and did research on the internet. I was a little scared about my health, being in remission from RA I didn’t know if such stress on my body would trigger a relapse or if my joints were strong enough. I purchased several books for marathon training and started to read them and I still had not made up my mind about trying 26.2, but one of the books I picked up was The Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer. I read some parts of all the books but kept going back to your book it seemed as if it was written just for me. I decided to stick my neck out and I signed up for the new Las Vegas Marathon it was eight months away with the books training I started the journey, I followed the training to the letter but as soon as the long runs started to increase, my knees and calf muscles were too sore even with days off in between, so I shortened my mid week runs to two five mile runs and kept the long runs at the end of the week the same as in the book and it worked. I ran my first marathon in Las Vegas December 2005 with a finish time of 5:06:05 it was the most uplifting experience in my life and to know the feeling of accomplishment for such a great task and all the challenges along the way to get there makes the moment priceless for me, NOW I RUN MARATHONS !! December 2006 I ran Las Vegas again with a finish time of 4:13:41, and on April 1st 2007 I ran the Carlsbad 5000 with a finish time 20:09. Next is San Diego Rock and Roll marathon June 3rd 2007, now I am hooked. The training for 2006 was ten miles a week with the same long runs as in the book on the weekends; it seems to have worked for me, my training for Rock and Roll Marathon is about the same but I am trying for a PR of 3:30 or under. One of the neat thing about being alive is we are creating our own book or big screen movie, Every day we cast our lives not to fate but to destiny, a hard and challenging life to one may be someone else’s dream life. Deep roots bare great fruits.
