Soo far soo good…. Next Sunday I run 26.2 miles in Vegas. I was in vegas for Thanksgiving and I was able to drive some of the course, Las vegas Blvd needs a lot of work, there is a lot of construction on the strip and the road is full of pot holes and uneven pavement. It rained quite a bit and flooded a few streets, I can’t wait to see how this event will unfold with weather and the changing hands from Devine racing to the Rock and Roll companies.

My Seventeen week marathon training program in mild weather and a day or two of heat, wet and one day of coyotes is all winding down to just a trickle of running. Nine miles this Sunday and then next Sunday eight. I feel like a small kid that’s leaving Disneyland, all the fun behind me and now only memories…but wait what about 26.2 in a few days? For me the marathon run is a thing I do for timing and to guage how much or how little effort I put in my training and yes to try for a new PR. At the starting line I bring my shoes and bib, timing chip and the training of Seventeen weeks of fun. Oh and I broke 900 running miles yesterday for the year, Wow! and in 2003 I was counting the stairs I had to climb and using handicap restrooms, never giving up does payoff, and the fruits of determination are sweet!!!

This is my luck, tried to do 21 miles today and at mile 19 I was done. It was very hot and the wind was blowing hard, I felt like a strip of meat in a dehydration machine, beef jerky anyone ? Hot and very dry wind blowing from the east to west. This was a good weekend, Saturday I was able to fly my daughter around San Diego With my instructor. We flew a piper archer it’s a little bigger than the one I train in but it’s easier to fly, She loved it and to bring something new in a childs life is a great thing to do, now she has tasted flight in a whole new way, like teaching them how to ride a bike or swim a memory that they can grow on. I would say this was a perfect weekend. This was my marathon today, training to this point and now my taper runs I’m ready and in a few weeks I get to play in Vegas, It’s a fun 26.2 miles and all the months of running and time I put in to this will show by my finish time if all goes well. Flying, running it’s all the same to me, A blast, I guess that’s why I am all over the board today on this post.

Last year I ran Vegas with a finish time of 4:15:43 when finished and in recovery My sisters son (five years old) was sad, I asked him why he was sad and he told me that he seen someone finish first and was sad that I didn’t win The race. I remember I smiled at him and said it’s ok not to be first, however I didn’t tell him I was in about 6,000 place, at the time I just thought for a second how amazing it would be to be first for a 26.2 run. I know we are all winners, just to be here on this little blue planet we call home and to dream a dream and watch it develop and become real right before our eyes, how lucky we are to do what we all do, what ever it is running, walking, or just being in the moment, how nice it is to be part of this small cycle of Earth’s time and the thing we call life and living.

Back in the am workout again. Running at night gets me to bed at 11:00pm and then the am workout gets me up at 4:15am. I trained my body to recover from long runs and now in a few weeks I get to see what all this time and effort has done to my body. Running alone for 14, 15, 18, 20 miles or any long run really clears a persons mind, the only thing that can be going on in your mind at that point is finishing the run. Running alone for 99% of this marathon training and only the drive of one to keep me going an now in a few weeks I meet with people from everywhere to run as one again, but with the power in numbers and one goal in everyones mind We all will run to together as one, how lucky am I to have discovered this thing called a marathon and crazy enough to try and meet the challenge of 26.2

Found myself in the moment again, the perfect balance of energy needed vs energy stored breathing in vs oxygen needed. I know there must be a formula that we all have to be in perfect balance with our bodies and I will figure this out someday for now I’m just in awe of being in that place and I will keep going there as long as I can, it’s not running in that place that i’m in it’s really feels like I belong there, no running discomfort only peace, must be like deep yoga of somthing along the same lines, however I tried yoga and I never felt nothing other than thinking I was sitting there with my eyes closed and waiting for something to happen, it never did. More deep thought from a guy that must be real tired to come up with this stuff or not ?
